Kathleen Hargrave was born in California and lives in the Pacific Northwest, east of Seattle. She has a degree in Art from the University of Oregon in Eugene. She also studied at the University of Washington in Seattle and Pilchuck glass School. Hargrave’s art practice has focused on blown and kiln formed glass and printmaking. She develops her work in layers, responding to imagery in a visual and tactile manner. Her choice of materials is fundamental to her method and the message in her work. Most recently her focus has been a personal narrative that expresses feelings of love and loss, and the beauty and fragility of nature. Her innovative printmaking methods include both traditional and alternative materials allowing for spontaneity, experimentation and personal expression. Metaphorically her work explores the transience of our time on earth; a constantly changing place of both sanctuary and uncertainty.
